Mountain biking ranges from uphill battles to leisurely rides and covers terrain areas that may send the cyclist tumbling over at a moments notice. Mountain bike training needs a combination of skill and endurance. Additionally, there are many tools that can be used during training. These include power meters and heart-rate monitors, all of which are used to monitor training efforts. The following are the best tips to ensure successful mountain bike training.

1. Eat the right things

Given the fact that mountain bike training entails a lot of muscle activity, it is very important to eat right food.

2. Rest properly

To ensure a continuous and successful training, resting is very essentially. This will enable the muscles to relive stress, and more importantly, recoup the lost energy. One full rest in a day is of equal importance to mountain bike training.

3. Commit

It is important to note that mountain bike training requires commitment and well being. This necessitates the self motivation because failing to reach the targets means total failure. It will be even difficult to initiate training next time because of challenges experienced previously. Setting goals will ensure that you are up to the task and you know where you want to be after the training. Commitment is very important for the beginners.
4. Progression

It is a common observation that practice makes perfect. This can be applied to mountain bike training as well. You need to train on a regular basis so as to enable the muscles and lungs to adapt to a strenuous activity with limited oxygen. As time progresses, the actual mountain training will eventually become a plateau training because of the gradual improvement.

1. It’s fun!

The first reason is that mountain biking is fun. This goes without saying that even as a spectator, mountain bikers always look as if they are enjoying it. The change of mind and environment is refreshing and provides a mental freshness that is unique.

2. Burns Calories

You can burn a lot calories when you’re on your bike.

3. Boost Energy Levels

Bike riding increases energy levels in the body by 20 percent. This is because of the triggered release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter linked to energy release.

4. Safe Exercise

The fourth reason is that mountain biking puts less pressure on the knees, spine and ankles as compared to casual walking. This pays off during old age when the knees grow weak.

5. Great Workout

Mountain biking engages all muscles in the body. Unlike the gym which works out targeted muscles, mountain biking ensures that every muscle is engaged especially when climbing a hill. This reason ensures that the body is proportional both in toning, as well as general fitness.

6. Lower Cholesterol

Mountain biking works the heart muscles and in turn reduces blood pressure and LDL. Mountain biking saves lives in its own special way.

Mountain biking is a common sport and it is important for bikers to know how to choose the right mountain bike. Choice of the perfect bike largely depends on the riders’ riding preferences. For instance, a cross country rider needs a different bike from a downhill rider. The reason is that mountain bikes are designed differently for different riding styles. When it comes to the question of how to choose the right mountain bike, a rider needs to understand the special features of different types of mountain bikes that make them adapt to their specific riding style. Different types of mountain bikes include the free ride bikes, downhill bikes, full suspension bikes, dirt jump bikes, hard tail bikes, cross country bikes etc.

The cross country bikes are the simplest because they are not designed with any special features. They are quite light and best for competitive pedaling; good for speeding and tight turning. They are not suitable for high jumps and stunts since they cannot bear such impact. The downhill bikes are designed for downhill descent. They are special bikes armed with large brake discs, front and rear suspensions and their frame tubing is much heavier. Their design is made to tackle tough and steep descent terrains.

Free ride bikes are hard to define because they are designed to do a little bit of everything. From less steep descends to stunts and normal pedaling. They can ride well through different terrains and they are a bit heavier than the cross country bike. Full suspension bikes have both wheels suspended unlike the hard tail bikes which have only the front wheel suspended. The advantage of full suspension bikes is that they give a smooth ride, thus they are easier on the rider’s joints and allow more control of the bike at high speeds in rough terrain. On the other hand, they are heavier and more expensive. Lastly, the dirt jump bikes, as the name suggests, are designed to perform awing stunts. Their wheels probably touch the ground fewer times than they are in the air. They are built from sturdy materials and they are light thus easy to maneuver.

As a rider, when it comes to how to choose the right mountain bike; make your choice primarily based on your riding style and ensure that you test your bike before you take it out to the biking track.
